Unsubscribe & Preferences Merge Tags Reference

The following merge tags are available for use in your Mass Email Notification feeds. These tags generate unsubscribe and preferences links depending on which method is selected in your Unsubscribe Settings.

{menfgf_unsubscribe_url} #

Generates the full unsubscribe URL for the current recipient.

Available when: Any method is active except the automatic footer.

Use case: Insert this tag when you want to display the raw unsubscribe URL, such as in plain-text emails or for debugging, or in case you want to build the link yourself.

Example:

To stop receiving these emails, visit {menfgf_unsubscribe_url}

{menfgf_unsubscribe_link} #

Generates a clickable unsubscribe link with default or customized link text.

Available when: Any method is active except the automatic footer.

Use case:
Embed this tag directly into your email body to create a standard unsubscribe link.

Example:

{menfgf_unsubscribe_link}

The text for this link can be customized in your Unsubscribe Settings panel under Merge Tag Link Text.

{menfgf_unsubscribe_form_url} #

Generates the full URL of the Gravity Form landing page when the Use a Gravity Form landing page method is selected.

Available when: The Gravity Form method is selected.

Use case:
Include this tag in emails where you want recipients to manage their preferences or pause subscriptions directly from the form.

Example:

Manage your preferences at {menfgf_unsubscribe_form_url}

{menfgf_unsubscribe_form_link} #

Generates a clickable unsubscribe or preferences link pointing to your Gravity Form landing page.

Available when: The Gravity Form method is selected.

Use case:
Adds a customizable “Manage Preferences” link that sends the recipient to the page containing your preferences form. The link text is defined by the Form Link Text field in your settings.

Example:

{menfgf_unsubscribe_form_link}

Usage Notes #

  • Merge tags only work in the email feed message body and will not render correctly in other fields or plugins.
  • One of the available merge tags must be included in your message body if you’re using the Gravity Form method.
  • Merge tags are automatically disabled when the automatic footer method is active (the system handles the link insertion for you). If you include multiple merge tags in the message body, all of them will resolve independently. However, if you later switch to the automatic footer method, those merge tags will be ignored because the plugin automatically adds its own unsubscribe link.
  • After updating your settings or feeds, always save and re-test to confirm merge tags resolve correctly.

These tags give you full control over where and how unsubscribe or preferences links appear, allowing your emails to remain flexible, compliant, and on-brand.
